The Carrie Bradshaw Philosophy of Life

I fail to understand how so called 'feminists' lay claim to the TV show/movie 'Sex and the City,' as if it were a badge of honour and have taken the show as their banner. Why?

There is even a reporter working on a local radio station and writes a column whose aim in life is to be just like 'Carrie Bradshaw,' once again why?

This character is supposedly so emancipated that she can have sex whenever and with whomever she likes. Guess what so can monkey's in a zoo but unlike people, monkey's do not make choices they go on base instincts.

The entire format of the show is based on empty women who try and fill the void in their empty lives by having sex sometimes with complete strangers, where is the heroism in that? Where is the freedom in allowing their bodies to be used and abused and then tossed on the garbage dump as their so called lovers move on to their next new 'love interest.'

This is not a show about women's emancipation it is about women's enslavement. This group of women will do just about anything in order to 'marry a man of their dreams,' and if it doesn't work out, well there is always the divorce courts.

Heroic women? I think not!

The TV show should have been renamed 'Desperate & Dateless in New York.'

From reviews that I have read Carrie Bradshaw spends most of the show chasing one man who is so loathe to marry her that he runs away.

Is this how we want women to be represented? As so desperate they will sleep around, have abortions, but hey they always wearing their Jimmy Choo heels and Vera Wang outfits.

Is this character really how modern women want to be? Shallow, superficial with their brittle smiles and even more brittle personalities.

I find it very sad indeed and indicative of a hedonistic lifestyle that the character portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker is seen as a role model for women.

Give me the Donna Reeds, June Cleavers and Carol Brady's any day. What do YOU think?

Good Viewing-North & South/ The Forsyte Saga

North & South tells the story of John Thornton who is master of Marlborough mills and Margaret Hale who is the daughter of a Minister. What should have been an uncomplicated romance between the two main characters becomes complicated when Margaret witnesses an incident with Mr. Thornton and one of his workers. It begins a journey of misunderstanding as prejudices rule and sides are taken.

What makes this story different is the relationship between John Thornton and his mother, the sensitivity, affection and respect shared between both mother and son is touching to watch.

We see in North and South two sides of the coin between the masters and the workers and how compromise can bring about change.

It is a story of the North with its brutal and gritty realism verses life in the more quiet and easy going South, a clash of cultures ensues.

This is a great love story of a strong willed woman used to speaking her opinion openly played with great confidence by Daniela-Denby-Ashe and a man who finds himself falling inlove with a woman who does not return his affections played with understated brilliance by Richard Armitage.

The story is helped by excellent performances from Sinead Cusack who plays Mrs. Thornton, Brendan Coyle who portrays firebrand union man Nicholas Higgins and Tim Pigott Smith who plays Margarets father.

Good viewing for all.

The Forsyte Saga

This is the modern interpretation of an old classic which played decades ago on the BBC.

In this version Soames Forsyte is played brilliantly by Damian Lewis who portrays the character of Soames so well that one feels both pity and repulsion almost at the same time.

It is the story of unrequited love and how it can destroy both the object of love and the unloved with equal force.

In the background are two sides of the Soames family. One side which is more bohemian, while the other clan is repressingly and hypocritically polite and civil leaving their cruelties unspoken, but nevertheless felt.

There are no heroes in this partcilar drama as both sides are deeply flawed characters. The cold, beautiful yet passionate Irene Forsyte who marries for money and finds herself imprisoned by her husbands obsessive love. The character is played very well by Gina McKee.

But all eyes are fixed on Damian Lewis who actually says very little but can portray so much by a flicker of an eye lid and a small sneer. Soames Forsyte is a man who follows the norms of society, who refuses to break the rules and has little compassion for those who do and yet is undone by his obsessive love for a woman who loves him not. This leaves him to behave in a brutal fashion which haunts his conscience and colours all his relationships.

The tragedy of this will follow the Forsytes into the next generation.

Excellent viewing.

Laughter Is The Best Medicine LOL

Victor and the Yucca Plant

One of my favourite comedies of all time is 'One Foot in the Grave.' Luckily for me on satelite TV there are re-runs so every night I ROAR with laughter at the antics of Victor Meldrew and his long suffering wife. This video only runs for 2 minutes so please DO watch and have a laugh LOL!
In fun

Sleaze TV a Turn Off!

Are you all as tired of 'sleaze TV' as much as I am? Now there is a new TV show called 'Californication' going by the promo it is a 'sizzling hot TV programme with spice and shock value'. That translates to; it is full of profanities and vulgar nudity, where sex is the name of the game.

What I find most offensive is that the CEO's of the Television stations TRY and convince us that they are catering to our needs and wants. Oh please spare me the LIES! They are not catering to a taste but are trying to create a need for even more sex and violent TV shows. Enough is Enough!

The TV shows that rate the best are drama's such as Law & Order, comedies & documentaries. What concerns me though is that many parents allow their small children to stay up all hours and watch what they want. This is not good news for the family unit.

As for me I never watch these salacious and sleazy TV programs. Some of us can see beyond the 'hype' and know trash when we see it.

Do you turn off the sleaze as much as I do? What are your favourite TV programes?

Princess Diana-Dying for Ratings

I am totally appalled at a British TV channel which is going to show a program of the late Princess Diana, which shows her dying in the back seat of her car.

How is this going to help anyone? If it is being done to try and excuse the abysmal behaviour of the Paparazzi they can save their breath there is NO saving those who pursue celebrities sometimes to their death.

We well know that not only was Diana the 'Peoples Princess' she was also the 'Press Princess' and many in that medium made a lot of money from the late Princess. But to now try and prophet from her death is disgusting.

If the program airs on Australia TV I will personally boycott the program as well as notifying the particular channel of my displeasure and disgust. I just hope that the British public will do the same.

Princess Diana may have lived her life on the front pages of many papers but please at least let her death have some form of dignity....I do not need to see this tragic woman dying in the back seat of her car. Enough is enough!

Rosie VS Elisabeth-My View

I dont know about the rest of you but I am FED up with the inane rantings of one, Rosie O'Donnell. Now I dont mind a person who expresses a different view point than my own, hence I do listen to Joy Behar, who can be witty if at times outrageous. But there is a BIG difference with having an opinion and being a down right bully. Rosie is a BULLY! Not because she is 'gay', or because she is well rounded, what a person looks like doesnt worry me, but I DO care about bullying!

For months now Elisabeth Hasselbeck has had to tolerate the viscious attacks vented on her by her 'friend' Rosie O'Donnell. The REAL reason for these attacks was made clear today by Rosies own words and it has ZERO to do with the war on Iraq. To put it in a nutshell, Rosie O'Donnel is jealous of Elisabeth.

"Here’s how it gets spun in the media: Rosie – big, fat, lesbian loud Rosie -- attacks innocent, pure Christian Elisabeth." In this sentence lay the REAL reason why Rosie cannot stand Elisabeth, because Elisabeth represents how many people envision 'the perfect couple'. Elisabeth is everything that Rosie is NOT and that is not Elisabeth's fault.

I also will not let Barbara Walters off the hook, what on earth was that woman thinking??? It beggars belief! Did she not get the memo that when Rosie had her own show it was cancelled, mainly because of her outrageous and weird views on every topic imaginable. This is a woman who hates her own country and makes it obvious! But I have sat and watched Barbara simper up to Rosie over the past few weeks, why? Guilty concience Barbara?

Lets look at some of Rosie's outlandish comments, that Christians are as dangerous as Islamofacists, why? Because the Catholic Church and other denominations refuse to accept Gay marriages? I havent seen any Christians take over planes and drive them into Muslim buildings, killing their innocent citizens!

Rosie accused Elisabeth of 'double speak' now let us look at this...Rosie tells the audience that 650,000 innocent Iraqi's have been killed, and to paraphrase her, 'isn't that an act of terror'? Who is Rosie referring too, tourists? Christians? Housewives? Let me think what Americans are in Iraq? Oh yea U.S soldiers. But Rosie didn't SAY American soldiers, NO! Because she is too cowardly instead she insinuates it then smirks at her own 'cleverness'. Where does this woman get her stats from anyway...stats4reallystupidppl.com?

On another episode Rosie was pulled over the coals by Kelly Ripa who had the courage to phone into the show and NOT allow Rosie to get away with yet another outrageous insinuation that Kelly was a 'homophobic'. Rosie was left with egg on her face and it showed!

Then we had the edifying event where Rosie hosted the Women in The Media event. Here there is noone else to blame except Rosie and her crude sense of humour where she points to her anatomy and makes an indecent suggestion to Donald Trump!

Rosie O'Donnell doesnt need any enemies she IS her own worst enemy. A woman who hates her own country who makes outrageous claims that 'the American Government was behind the attacks on September 11th'? Huh? Didnt Rosie also say that President Bush was 'stupid', yet he is smart enough to not only fool the American people but the entire world. Get a GRIP Rosie!

I was proud of the way Elisabeth Hasselbeck handled herself today, she stood her ground and didnt have to scream like a fish wife to do so, she left that to Rosie.

Time to go Rosie BUH BYE! And not a moment too soon for many of us!

Rosie VS Elisabeth Showdown

In case you missed seeing the showdown between Rosie and Elisabeth here it is:
